1996: Degree in chemistry at the “Università degli Studi di Napoli – Federico II”, summa cum laude.

1999: PhD in Chemical Sciences at the “Università degli Studi di Perugia”.

1999-2005: Research Fellow and Research Associate at Dipartimento di Chimica at the “Università degli Studi di Perugia”.

2012 - Associate Professor of Organic Chemistry at the “Università degli Studi di Perugia”.

2013 - Full Professor of Organic Chemistry qualification.

2014 - present : Guest Professor (Bijzonder Gastdocent) at the University of KU Leuven Belgium.

2015 - present : Associate Editor of RSC Advances a multidisciplinary journal of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

2016 - present : Associate Editor of Beilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, a journal of the Beilstein Institut.

2001: Society of Chemical Industry - London (SCI) Award - “First Europa Medal for Europe’s Best Younger Chemist” for the innovative synthesis of norstatines in water (J. Org. Chem. 2003, 68, 7041-7045).

2006 and 2007 Academic Development Program (ADP) Award from Merck’s Chemistry Council for “Creative work in organic chemistry”.

2007G. Ciamician Medal of the Società Chimica Italiana – Divisione di Chimica Organica (prize given to young emerging researchers with age below 35 for outstanding contributions to the field of Organic Chemistry).

2012 Nominated Member of the "Ad Hoc Working Group on Tools and Approaches to Support Decision-Making on the Substitution of Harmful Chemicals” a joining action of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) that holds the presidency.

2013 Elected in the board of the Green Chemistry Interdivision of the Società Chimica Italiana (SCI).

Luigi Vaccaro is Co-Author of ca 140 scientific publications (including reviews and books) and 9 papers published in Synfacts

Research Interests

Catalysis: Multifunctional heterogeneous catalysts designed for flow reactors operating in safer reaction media for the development of waste-minimized syntheses of fine chemicals. Bio-based fuels, solvents and chemicals.
