From June 1998 to October 1998 he had a research contract at the Istituto di Industrie Agrarie, University of Perugia.
From November 1998 to April 1999 he obtained an EU Leonardo da Vinci scholarship spent at the Centre de Recherche Nestlé, Tours (France) and the Nestlé Research Centre, Lausanne (Switzerland).
From July 1999 to November 2002 he obtained a research contract at the Nestlé Research Centre, Lausanne (Switzerland) to perform the experimental work for his Ph.D. thesis.

From May 2004 to January 2005 he was a Post-Doctoral scientist at the Institute of Musculoskeletal Sciences, University of Oxford (UK) .
From January 2005 to May 2008 he was a Post-Doctoral scientist at the University of Perugia (Italy), Department of Experimental Medicine and Biochemical Sciences, section of Microbiology

Since June 2008 he is Assistant Professor at the University of Perugia, Department of Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology where he carries on his research and teaching activities. He is member and coordinator of the Research Group in Bio-Molecular Diversity & Evolutionary Biology.

During his Ph.D. and his first Post-Docs, Dr. Federici has studied bone biology and in particular the effects of drugs and micronutrients on bone cell metabolism.
Since 2005 his main interests are Microbial Ecology and Environmental Microbiology and in particular the utilization of culture-independent molecular methods to investigate environmental microbial communities and their role in ecological, biotechnological and pathological processes. During the last years his main research activities have regarded the microbiological aspects of the bioremediation of polluted soils and of the valorization of agro-industrial by-products.

Dr Federici is member of the "Italian Society of General Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnologies" (SIMGBM) and of the "International Association of Mediterranean Agro-industrial Wastes" (IAMAW).
Dr. Federici is author and co-author of more than 40 scientific works (papers published in peer-reviwed international journals and presentations to national and international meetings) and of 3 international patents.
